Wer bei uns zu den Tories gehört ist klar: Alles von Gauweiler bis Lafontaine. Aber gibt es in Deutschland überhaupt vereinzelt noch ein paar Whigs? Merz und Metzger sind zwar begnadete Selbstdarsteller, aber in der Sache weder Fisch noch Fleisch und mit einem ähnlichen Fragezeichen zu versehen wie Bob Barr, der Präsidentschaftskandidat der "Libertarian Party", die heute noch "Party of Principle" zu nennen mir zuviel Ironie abverlangte . Möglicherweise ist der Bundestagsabgeordnete Frank Schaeffler das weiße Schaf in der schwarzen Herde?
Jedenfalls besteht auch das Lager der selbsternannten Liberalen (und sogar der Libertären!) hierzulande überwiegend aus Tories, die sich für Whigs ausgeben! Jim Davidson macht deutlich, warum es problematisch ist, wenn zwischen "Klassisch Liberal/Libertär" und "Konservativ" die Trennschärfe verloren geht:
